Vancouver - On May 1, the website TripAdvisor announced the winners of its 2012 Travelers’ Choice Destinations Awards. The travel and tourism website considered the popularity of 440 destinations worldwide, based on millions of reviews and opinions posted on the site by travelers. There is a ranking of 25 Top World Travel Destinations, and separate rankings for several regions and countries across the world including Africa, Asia, Canada, China, Mexico, South America, and the United States.
The three top world travel destinations are London, New York City and Rome. In the United States the three top choices were New York City, San Francisco and Chicago. In Canada the list is headed by Vancouver, British Columbia. In a brief description of the city’s attractions TripAdvisor writes:
“Check out the Victorian architecture in Gastown, take a kayak out on English Bay or explore Stanley Park. The elevated Sky Train is a great way to view the city. Interesting read and great photos Igor! I see Cape Town (my previous home) is No. 2 on their list for Africa!

Great article and stunning photos!
Thanks Chanah for your kind comment. I guess you did not mind Toronto coming third in this ranking. It's OK, the "Centre of the Universe", "Hogtown", the "Megacity", will always be first in the heart of Torontonians!

Thanks for your comment, Anne. Since you know Cape Town well, and probably also know Morocco (N° 1), would you agree with that second place for Cape Town in the ranking of Africa?
Personally, I got motivated to write this article because I love Vancouver ("my previous home"), and I believe the city has everything to be number one in just about every ranking (except in smooth flowing city and bridges traffic!)

Actually I'm quite happy with the Canadian rankings. I'm not as obsessed with Toronto as many Torontonians. I'm from B.C. and I will forever consider it my home. Though, I would put Victoria ahead of Vancouver - but that's my bias. :)

Wonderful photographs! My favourite: The BC Parliament Building in Victoria, BC. What a gorgeous structure!
Another awesome online tour -- I visited Toronto as a child -- impressed, I recall.

As a resident of Melbourne Australia, and knowing Vancouver (becaused lived off-shore from Vancouver and in Seattle), I see on woldwide assessments of most livable large cities why they usually have Melbourne and Vancouver as numbers 1 and 2 one year then 2 and 1 the next and so it goes. Each has its traffic problems, but both deserve to be studied more closely to have a better understanding of what comes together for best living: public transport, security, entertainment, universities, housing, social conscience, plural cultures and so forth. What are the main, most significant features? Like very much to know what people think.

As far as Vancouver, I believe there as several reasons, but perhaps one of the main factors that makes this city a wonderful place and one of the most livable places on Earth is DIVERSITY! In this city you may have Canadian, Chinese, Philippine, Croatian, Korean, Italian, Portuguese (etc. etc.) friends and acquaintances and share life with people who can tell you different stories about life, culture, history, customs, traditions and so on. It's diversity, friendship, humanity!
