The Image Makers Photography Club had a wide variety of captivating images on display when they held their first show, which opened in Truro, Nova Scotia this week.
Truro - The show, titled "Beyond Our Lens – When Photography Becomes Art", opened at the McCarthy Gallery, on the Truro campus of the Nova Scotia Community College, on April 11. It includes about 80 images captured by 15 members of the club.
"There is a lot involved in putting the show together but it was easy because we had such a good committee," said Derek Coombs, one of the contributing photographers and the person who came up with the idea for the show.
Coombs has been a member of the Image Makers since 2009 and said his involvement has helped him learn a lot. The club has about 75 members who share information and friendship during monthly meetings and field trips.

"Some people jokingly refer to us as the photography and eating club," said President Wayne Talbot. "We usually go for a nice meal after an outing.
Talbot has been a member for about seven years. He learned about the group when he noticed some photos in the window of MP Crowell, a local furniture shop.
"I went in and asked about them and they told me they had been by members of Image Makers," he recalled. "I had been involved in photography so I contacted them and became a member."

The Image Makers Photography Club was formed in 1980. It's goals are to encourage the art and science of photography, to educate and stimulate photographers, to provide opportunities for photographers to practice their art, and to provide activities where members can share their joy of photography with others.
"Beyond Our Lens - When Photography Becomes Art" runs until the end of May.
